Short CV of Christos Athanassiou

Christos Athanassiou is an Assistant Professor at the University of Thessaly in Greece. He teaches General and Applied Entomology, Urban Entomology, Biological Control and Integrated Pest Management. His research interests are primarily focused in stored-product entomology, but he is also involved on topics related with population ecology, systematics, zoogeography, chemical ecology, agricultural entomology and alternatives to pesticides. Until 2009, Christos Athanassiou has published 125 papers in SCI Journals. Since 2002, he was a visiting scientist in several Universities and Institutes, such as the Kansas State University and the USDA-ARS Grain Marketing and Production Research Center (2007-2009).

Christos Athanassiou first joined IOBC in 2001, during the meeting of the Working Group on ‘’Integrated Protection of Stored Products’’, in Lisbon, Portugal. For the same Working Group, he was elected Convenor in 2007. He is also actively involved in other IOBC/WPRS Working Groups, such as the ‘’Use of Pheromones and Other Semiochemicals in Integrated Control’’, ‘’Integrated Protection of Olive Groves’’ and ‘’Integrated Control in Viticulture’’ (see also http://www.aua.gr/gr/dep/fit/bioathanassiou.htm).
