Kalaitzaki Argyro is a Research Entomologist at the Institute of Olive tree and Subtropical Plants of the National Agricultural Research Foundation in Chania (http://www.nagef.gr). She got her bachelor in Agricultural Engineering in 1990 and her PhD in Biological Control of Citrus pest in 2004, both at the Agricultural University of Athens. Her research interests are focused on biological and integrated control of pests in olives and citrus crops. Her main objectives are to study the effectiveness of new pesticides for the control of Bactrocera oleae, of Ceratitis capitata and of other pests of olives and citrus crops, the side-effects of the pesticides on beneficial arthropods and the development of mass trapping systems. Also, she is occupied with introduction, rearing and releasing of beneficial insects (parasitoids and predators) for the biological control of olive & citrus pests.
She joined IOBC/WPRS in 2002 (WG: “Integrated Control of Olive Crop”), and became its convenor in 2003.
