Margarida Vieira is a research scientist in plant protection (entomology) of the Plant Protection Unity of INIA (National Research Institute of Agriculture), at Oeiras. Since 1976 till 1998 she was involved in research projects of IPM in different crops. During the last 10 years (1998-2008) she worked in the Plant Protection Registration Service (DGPC) were the activity was related with: Evaluation of insecticides and acaricides, evaluation of side effects of plant protection products (PPP) on beneficials, and developed studies of effect of maize Bt on non-target organisms. In this period she was responsible for collecting data about sales of PPP and developed risk indicators. She was member of the “Expert Group on Pesticides Statistics” of EUROSTAT (2005-2007).
From the period 2001-2005 she was Council Member of IOBC/SROP and Liaison Officer of the Working Group “Integrated Protection in Oak Forests”. Since 2005 she is Deputy Member and Liaison Officer for the WG Integrated Protection of Field Vegetables.
