Liaison-Officer Weintraub P.

Structure The group was initiated in 1991. It is composed of scientists from countries of the Mediterranean basin.

Aim The group fosters collaboration in research on the development of integrated control strategies for pests in olive groves, which preserve the complex of natural enemies and reduce inputs of pesticides, thereby minimizing impacts on the environment.

Activities Members of the group target their research towards the integrated control of pests in olive groves. Coordination of research activities is promoted by an information service and periodic meetings of experts. The main research activities concern:
  • standardization of sampling methods
  • establishing of economic thresholds
  • role of natural enemies
  • biological and biotechnical control methods
  • development of pest population models
  • side effects of pesticides
  • chemical and genetic ecology of pests

Achievements Initiation of cooperation between main Mediterranean laboratories on development and application of IPM in olive groves.
