INSECT DOCTORS - successful PhD online course in June 2020
The PhD course "Concepts and terms in insect pathology and their placement in the general context of diseases and health" was held successfully for INSECT DOCTORS PhD candidates and a few additional participants.
The main elements in the course included:
- Terms and concepts for studying pathogens and diseases,
- Biology of different insect pathogen groups,
- Journal clubs, and
- Report writing.
The ZOOM platform was used for the online activities, and attendants had prepared for the course by reading relevant literature. In their final report, the candidates applied the obtained knowledge on concepts, terms, biology etc. to their own study system. The course provided an excellent opportunity for the INSECT DOCTORS candidates to get to know each other and to obtain an introduction into the field of insect pathology.
Jørgen Eilenberg (Univ. Copenhagen, Denmark) was responsible for the course, and the other teachers were Salva Herrero (Univ. Valencia, Spain), Vera Ros (Wageningen Univ., the Netherlands), and Christina Nielsen-Leroux (INRAE, France). Program leader of INSECT DOCTORS is Monique van Oers (Wageningen Univ., the Netherlands).
