East meets West in Zlatibor, Serbia
at the "VIIIth Congress on Plant Protection" of the Plant Protection Society of Serbia

This meeting was co-organized with the East Palaearctic (IOBC-EPRS) and the West Palaearctic (IOBC-WPRS) Regional Sections of IOBC, in cooperation with the national plant protection societies from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, North Macedonia, and Slovenia.
It was formally opened by Dr. Brankica TANOVIĆ, president of the Plant Protection Society of Serbia, together with the presidents of IOBC-EPRS and IOBC-WPRS, Academician Viktor DOLZHENKO and Dr. Philippe NICOT (respectively center, left and right on the above photo).
The meeting focused on "Integrated Plant Protection for Sustainable Crop Production and Forestry" and brought together 540 participants from 29 countries from Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania. A high participation of students and young scientists was recorded.
The scientific program comprised 6 sessions, mostly focused on biological and integrated protection of various important crops:
- Integrated protection of fruit crops;
- Integrated protection in forestry and landscape architecture;
- Integrated protection of field crops, vegetables and stored products;
- Biopesticides and beneficial organisms in conventional and organic agriculture;
- Pesticide effects and Environment;
- Harmful organisms in agriculture - characterization and surveillance.
The meeting entailed a total of 12 keynote and introductory lectures, 43 talks and 122 poster presentations. The high quality of the communications and the diversity of represented expertise, covering all aspects of crop protection, made for rich and fruitful exchange between participants in a welcoming atmosphere, which was highly conducive to the birth of new collaborations.
The impeccable organization of the event, the nice facilities and fantastic food of the venue, together with the natural beauty of the surroundings were definitely a plus.
